    3.5 km of trails. Both overlapping and linear. Intermediate level. Open year round. Free admission. Access: follow the signs posted in the city of Matagami. The park lines the Bell River and the magnificent Chenal Rapids. The trails offer an observation tower, an observation terrace, a playground and interpretative panels.





  • FAUNENORD GUIDED ACTIVITIES

    FaunENord is an organisation that specializes in nature interpretation activities. Team members include biologists and ecology technicians who are passionate about the study and observation of biodiversity. Interpretations take place in the forest and groups are accompanied by an energetic interpreter/guide. The activity lasts a few hours and numerous interpretation subjects are observed depending on the season.





  • FENOUILLET HILLS TRAILS

    20 km of trails. Easy to difficult levels. Overlapping. May to October. Access: Eastern end of rural routes 6 and 7. Snuggled in the Fenouillet hills, the trails lead to, among other things, a cave as well as a panoramic view of the Turgeon Valley. Some of the trails are open to mountain bikes and/or horses, as well as snowshoes in the winter.

  • LAKE IMBEAU AUDIO-INTERPRETATIVE NAUTICAL CENTER

    Come and discover the only audio-interpretative nautical circuit in all of Quebec. With only a few paddles, Mr. Eau La Source, your virtual guide, will tell you all about geological, historical, natural and human stories of Lake Imbeau. The one and a half hour circuit includes 12 different halts with audio descriptions around the lake. This beautiful landscape, still scarred by the 1997 forest fire will astonish you. Canoes and digital audio players are available at the Lake Pajegasque campground.

    12 km of trails. Intermediate level. Overlapping. May to October. Free admission. Come and observe how things come back to life after a forest fire! Come and admire geological phenomena like dolomite erratic stones, evidence of the passage of the glaciers. On interpretative panels, your two virtual guides Mr. Feu Laflamme and Mr. Roc Placote, will tell you some of the great stories of the region and will explain the rare surrounding geological formations. The trails offer great panoramic views of the Turgeon Valley. You will also find picnic areas and wild camping sites.

These natural hiking trails meander through one of North America’s oldest volcanoes. Every trail is marked and most of them have interpretative panels as well as directions on how to safely explore the surrounding environment.

Whether you are on a bike, on snowshoes, on cross country skis or on foot, you will enjoy the beauty of the boreal forest in any season. Discover the secrets of the flora and wildlife on the many interpretative panels lining the trails. You can bring along your fishing rod and cast out on one of the many small piers. Certain trails lead to the area devastated by the June 2005 forest fire and others lead to hilltops offering unparalleled views of the city. The trails feature belvederes, fishing wharfs, rest and picnic areas, beaches and chalets. Ski and snowshoe rental service is also available.
