  • April 1 to 7, 2012 - The Great Wind Trail

    The starting point will be at the Mistissini Cree community, in the heart of Northern Québec, on the vast Eeyou Istchee Cree territory. Destination: North of Mistassini Lake. This course is the equivalent of a 6-day kyte trip on a snow surface of 2,335km2. The Osprey outfitting camps will be the base camps of the expedition. A strong ethnographic expedition of adventure. Important implications of the Cree and Jamesian communities in the project.





  • February 25 to 26, 2012 - The Boreal Raid

    A one day off-road raid between Oujé-Bougoumou and Chibougamau passing through Lebel-sur-Quévillon and Matagami. The raid covers more than 750km. A support team and referees follow the raid to ensure the group’s security but also to determine, in case of a mechanical failure, whether or not the team is able to continue or is to be eliminated. More than $10,000 awards await the finalists while a beer and a warm welcome await the others. The ultimate objective is to cross over the region’s axis of the 113 road between Matagami and Chibougamau.





  • January 31 to February 3, 2013 - Tournoi hockey mineur de Chibougamau

    The Chibougamau minor hockey tournament is coming to its 37th edition and provides to numerous players of the region, the opportunity to play in a major tournament in front of parents and friends. From January 31 to February 3, 2013, 300 volunteers and 400 players will put their efforts together for the success of this tournament. Here is an opportunity to bring together diverse communities from the region.  

     





  • July 2012 - The Explorer's Descent

    The objective is to go down the Chibougamau river and to meet the Waswanipi river, a course between the Oujé-Bougoumou and Waswanipi communities. The arrival in Waswanipi will coincide with the annual cultural Chiiwetau’s celebrations. For the Cree Nation, Chibougamau river is a traditional route since a millennia. For the Jamesians, the history of exploration and discovery of « pays de Chibougamau » almost rewinds back to the origins of the colonization of Canada by the French. It was because of the Fur Trade that we gained our knowledge on the surroundings and resources, the success of this type of trafficking always required the search of new territories

    Fishing is my passion, the James Bay Walleye Fishing Tournament, my destination!

     

    Family activities and shows for everyone are scheduled for the 13th edition of the most important fishing tournament in Quebec. With more than $110 000 in cash and prizes, participating is the key to success. Taking place nearby lake Opémiska, 10 km away from Chapais, the site offers free parking, concrete boarding ramp, an information desk, sanitary facilities, and a practical pedestrian path that leads to Camping Opémiska. Professionals and amateurs, you are all invited to tease the James Bay walleye!

  • JUNE 30TH 2012 - First Nations Day

    This event is a cultural celebration which extends a hand of friendship to other cultures. The day begins with a ceremony celebrating the first steps of infants who walk in public for the first time and thereby become part of the community. This is followed by fun and games where athletes and artisans display their talents. These activities are followed by a makoushan – a feast where everyone is welcome!





  • AUGUST 2 to 5th 2012 - august festival

    This great cultural summer event is the largest in the North of Quebec. Taking place in the heart of the town, on an outdoor scene, this ppopular festival attracts close to 5 000 people on a daily basis during its four days of celebrations. More than 75 artists from Northern Quebec are here to give great performances as well as professional groups. Many activites such as our special family day, spectacular fireworks, a senior`s day, a beach volleyball tournament and many more are presented to the public. So come and enjoy yourself!





  • AUGUST 9 TO 12TH 2012 - OUJE-BOUGOUMOU BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL

    Ouje-Bougoumou “The Place Where People Gather“. Here is a unique opportunity to promote intercultural relations between communities by participating in diverse activites. Entertainment  and activities will be offered for all groups ages. An inflatable playground will be available for kids every day and there will be clowns to entertain and do their makeup. There will be exhibitions and a sale of aboriginal art as well as stories and legends' telling in tepees. Guided visits of the village and museum will be also available. Different competitons and tournaments will be part of the game as well: food competition, blueberry picking, pie eaters, canoe races, beach volleyball tournament, screen tournament, etc. Different cultural activities will be offered  and different local artists, groups or guests will take care of the musical entertainment. Majestic fireworks are anticipated at the end of the festival. You all invited to the fourth edition of Ouje-Bougoumou's 2012 Blueberry Festival. 





  • August 31 to September 3TH, 2012 - James Bay Horse Festival

    In the enchanting surroundings of Mont Fenouillet near Villebois, come and enjoy a variety of equestrian activities in this 10th edition of the James Bay Horse Festival. Horse enthusiasts gather together for beautiful rides on beach trails, picnics in the forest and friendly competitions in the ring. Carriage rides are also offered on site. There is a bar on site as well as restaurants that serve traditional cuisine with music and entertainment during the evenings; in addition, you’ll find a welcoming hut with limited lodging (only by reservation) as well as 75 rustic camping sites with water for the horses. Horse lovers are allowed to ride the trails at all times, as long as they obtain the Mount Fenouillet membership card.

  • FEBRUARY 2013 - Polar Challenge of the Beaters

    This 60 km snowmobile ride crosses through woods over a surfaced trail , off the federated trails. This ride focuses on the participation of antique snowmobiles and not on their speed or performance. The event takes place in a pleasant family atmosphere. Race winners are determined by a card draw (poker) and participants share more than $5,000 in prizes.

    Nine days of winter celebrations where dancing, performances, animations as well as the duchess crowning take place. Without forgetting "La Randonnée du Président", the biggest antique snowmobile hike in North America where ATV fans can participate. A cross Country Race of 250 Km for pros, fans and wife is also planned.
