Succumb to the allure of the North
An imposing region
The James Bay region extends over 350,000 km2 - from the 49th to the 55th
parallel; one fifth of the province of Québec. Called Eeyou Itschee,
or Land of the People, by the Cree who have been living there for thousands
of years, it remains one of the last untouched areas on the earth; the
ultimate destination for nature enthusiasts. Hundreds of thousands of
caribou and millions of migratory birds meet in the taiga along the
coasts.
Culture and tourism
The harmonization of the Cree culture with the non-native peoples, called
Jamesians, provides a truly unique experience.
In addition to its cultural riches, James Bay offers breathtaking landscapes
and a region which is already known for its many activities: caribou observation,
hunting and fishing, snowmobile expeditions, ecotourism, not to forget
visits to the big hydroelectric dams, to name but a few.
The call of the forest, the conquest of the North, the Amerindian
in his tepee, the 18th century trapper: in James Bay, you will discover
a territory where life alternates with adventure, the modern world
and the great outdoors.
Welcome to James Bay!
Eeyou Itschee, Wachiya!
